S. Whitney Holmes was born and raised in north-central West Virginia. She earned her M.F.A. in Creative Writing at the University of Alabama. She lives in Chicago, where she is Co-Editor of Switchback Books and is also an editor for The Offending Adam. Her poems appear in Poetry Northwest, Ninth Letter, and Gulf Coast.

bisect the first place, be swallowed by the wash
of shutters smack closed eyelids, the doorknob
