Zayne Turner grew up in rural eastern Oregon. She was the founding Executive Director of Forward Arts, Inc., a youth arts non-profit based in Louisiana, which houses the WordPlay Teen Writing Project. She has received grants and fellowships from the Vermont Studio Center and University of Virginia, where she was a Henry Hoyns Fellow. Her work has appeared in venues such as Ancora Imparo, Lettre Sauvage Press, and the High Desert Journal.

If it is not possible to touch the nascent orbits or insides,
get our hands dirty for argument’s (you know
what I mean) if horns are simply to exist
as points upon the sextant’s otherwise untroubled arc,
if the silk of my back cannot bring you
(as it brings me) down on all fours, cannot accrete
or contrive to a breathless ecstasy—to what end, then, our appetites?
