an accident
curled around a fantasy
of something convinced i will find
shift focus to your blue eyes
the first i’ve fallen into
ten hour drives demand introspection
leaving blacked out problems behind
i stuck a deer at 3 in the morning
going 70, the car swerved, i maintained control
parked to call you at a rest stop
as you were falling asleep.
i didn’t cry, found no blood, just tufts
of hair and dented doors.
i’ve come so far to simply sleep beside
you. the drive swiftly transformed
into so many murderous things.
