Tara Roeder is an associate professor of writing studies in Queens, New York. Her work has recently appeared in venues including Bateau, Permafrost, fields, and A-Minor Magazine. She is the author of Every Bird Is A Miracle, a collaboration with visual artist Arman Safa published by DIAGRAM Press in 2019.
My First Boyfriend
My first boyfriend lived under water, all phantom limbs and seaweed hair. We met on an abandoned pirate ship. His name was George Pirate Ship. His interests included taking long walks in squid territory and attempting to tame wild lobsters. He had purple sneakers. (Totally soaking wet purple sneakers.)
