Siren Song

I was taught to unravel boys
so they quiver like fish and crash their ships.
It brings me little joy except to watch
the gentle sails fold into the water.
The girls bend forward,
curls tickling the sailors’ necks.
They kiss the almost drowned,
craving the taste of death.
Maybe the boys too. I’ve never asked.

I sunbathe on my own rock,
stare at the girls who lick their pretty lips,
and I ache for each pink shape.
When they begin to sing again,
I wish I wasn’t immune to our serenade.
Then I could be unraveled,
sink to the ocean floor with the taste
of their song in my mouth.
