 Cut Season

Back when we were winter.

Once ice ridged what, in warmer weather
would be puddles.

All the girls had holiday names.
Mimic winter.
Sweep winter.

Once ice wrapped Rose’s throat.
Rose removed from bramble.
Cut becoming stem.

We’re getting warmer now.

This year no child goes mad
in snow.
Blue lips.
Sun blind.

Someone took the weather.
