Her core cools and whitens
for a short time only and
then the larvae feasts and swallows
the light, tunneling in its
playground to darken and dull:
The glitter dies out of the stars.
You always told her one bad apple ruins and,
reaching for redemption now,
with silent apologies and unspoken words you
attempt, although half-assed, to try.
